Suntapes is musician, composer and producer Tomas Johan Kristian Vanderplaetse. His compositions are atmospheric soundtracks merging neo-classic, minimal, dark ambient electronics and ethnic music.
Tomas produces soundtracks for live performances, films and immersive experiences. He’s on a constant quest to find the right musical atmosphere for each visual story. In a more poetic way one could say that he sees sound. As a classically schooled pianist Tomas Johan Kristian developed his own neo-classic style on the grand piano. While traveling he gathered and learned to play a lot of unique ethnic instruments. More special sauce is added in his music through experimentation with analog synthesizers, effects on acoustic instruments and tape recording. As much as recording in the studio Suntapes loves to perform live.
On 30 May 2025 the new album Travel Motion is being released with 8 relaxing and introspective tracks that bring you in a cinematic travel vibe in Galliano Island in Canada. 3 of the tracks in the album are Tomas Johan Kristian piano compositions with mellow Suntapes arrangements. The live show of this new album can be booked.
Tomas is also working on afrotrance music with artist Deogracias Kihalu for an upcoming performance on July 13th.
Later this year more Suntapes singles and an album with coöperation with Asian artists will be released.
Currently (2025) Suntapes can be booked for many performances:
Extricate: A hand balancing dance performance with live music & foley performance that offers the audience a soothing universe.
Tomas Johan Kristian: solo neo-classical piano set with his own compositions. LP can be ordered: https://www.tomasjohankristian.com/
Regenerative Flows: An immersive and complete relaxing audiovisual performance as full frame realistic visual journey with a live soundscape Suntapes music performance.
Towards the new Suntapes album TRAVEL MOTION , many singles are being released. These tracks immerse listeners in a cinematic vibe and travel motion. Each track is crafted with gentle melodies on warm acoustic instruments accompanied by atmospheric soundscapes and melodramatic arrangements. Perfect for relaxation and introspection. Plaza, Motion and Fathom combine minimalistic piano with Mellotron Flute and analogue synthesizers melodies.
Album "Phantom" by Tomas Johan Kristian is out on September 27th. Wavering between melodramatic subtle beauty and energetic minimalism, the solo piano pieces of Tomas Johan Kristian have a soothing feel and warm sound. His quirky approach to classical compositions sprung from his character to avoid the expected and to submerge in his own organic connection with repetitiveness.
Diverse atmospheric musical reflections of wild country side. The pictures I once took early in the morning in the east of Taiwan keep bringing me back. Wild Country, that’s where I want to be. Enjoy the diverse atmospheric sound, disappear from the hectic life and stay in Wild Country for 17 minutes.
