Suntapes is musician, composer and producer Tomas Johan Kristian Vanderplaetse. His compositions are atmospheric soundtracks merging neo-classic, minimal, dark ambient electronics and ethnic music.

Tomas produces soundtracks for live performances, films and immersive experiences. He’s on a constant quest to find the right musical atmosphere for each visual story. In a more poetic way one could say that he sees sound. As a classically schooled pianist Tomas Johan Kristian developed his own neo-classic style on the grand piano. While traveling he gathered and learned to play a lot of unique ethnic instruments. More special sauce is added in his music through experimentation with analog synthesizers, effects on acoustic instruments and tape recording. As much as recording in the studio Suntapes loves to perform live.

10 albums and more than 100 tracks have been released since 2018. On 30 May 2025 the album Travel Motion is released with 8 relaxing and introspective tracks that bring you in a cinematic travel vibe in Galliano Island in Canada. 3 of the tracks in the album are Tomas Johan Kristian piano compositions with mellow Suntapes arrangements.

While travelling in Kyrgyzstan in 2025, Tomas has filmed a lot of inspirational nature landscapes. And then he composed 6 meditative track as soundtracks for these Kyrgyzstan moods. On december 12, the first track Issyk Kul has been released. The coming months the next tracks will be released. And currently he is also composing tracks for other videos of beautiful destinations in the world. This project is going towards a new immersive live music performance with meditative earth mood videos and also towards a inspirational travel website with stunning video material of specific places.
